Bobbi Brown: Pretty Powerful Collection

"Pretty Powerful" is what every girl looks for when applying her makeup, am I wrong?
I want to walk out the house and feel brand new, adventurous, chic, and yet pretty!
Makeup Palettes can do great for some and bad for others, sometimes the colors are wrong and
doesn't come with a label that is posted in fine print,
"Only for women with light complexion." Ahhh the agony so why would we not
love Bobbi Brown's Pretty Powerful Collection?

I read through the information that states that the Pretty Face Palette
with wearable pink and brown tones & two rosy glosses is designed
for light to medium complexions
WHILE
The Powerful Face Palette with plum blush and a shot of bright pink
for lips and also some soft pinks and brown's for the eyes is designed
for medium and deep complexions!

Is this worth my $60 I would say YES! Your money would be well spent
and it's definitely not another palette that gets thrown into the bottom of the makeup bag.

Editor's Review: Almay Black Eyeliner & Mascara

I know I'm not the only one that has went through black eye liners and mascaras. When it comes to the liners it just seems difficult to find that perfect liner, one that you don't have to repeatedly go back & forth just to get it to darken and it just drives me crazy to keep having to sharpen the dual pencil. Or how about to deal with the ones where they go out so quick that you in no way got your money's worth, or how about the liners that don't work at all or smudge and make it look like you painted black under your eyes? Yup I think I can go on and on with examples. Mascara's are always a headache sometimes you pick up one that claims to be the perfect one for longer and fuller lashes but rather gives you clumped lashes and no length...I've been there and recently "Done that."
So I finally decided to make my way to the makeup aisle at the store to see what's new and what I can find to add to my collection. I walked past the Almay eyeliner and mascara the first time and decided to past but as I was looking at the same companies that I have tried over and over and just decided it wouldn't hurt to give Almay a try.

LOVE: The black eyeliner is perfect for the eye with one swoop it gives the perfect black line. I also loved how with the Mascara you can turn it to your desired length and fullness.

NOT SO: When most mascara's seems to be so dry not the Almay. That would seem perfect but it can be a little to much and will clump your lashes quickly if you are not careful.

Option: When using a lash curler or the brow brush/comb apply a thin layer of Vaseline first, it keeps your lashes separated and better when going to apply a coat of mascara, when using the Almay apply only one coat to keep from clumping and being to much.

Not such great quality put hopefully you can see! This was after applied Vaseline to the lashes.

Review: Clinique Even Better

This week brought out all the hecticness that anyone could imagine, but the most fun part about it was gearing up for the 2010 Soul Train Music Awards. Before I hit the red carpet to take pictures, we had to make sure that everything looked amazing on our end (No need to showing up not looking the part). We rushed over to Clinque for a makeover by two workers. As I sat in the chair anxious to see the outcome of my transformation I got more and more worried. I’m such an over thinker and with this being my first time using any products by Clinique I really didn’t know what to expect or how it would look on me.

All that changed in a blink of an eye, literally. I took one look in the mirror from my results and was like, “Whoa!” The look was amazing! The makeup specialist/artist or however the title goes there looked AMAZING. Everything was perfectly done from the foundation, eyebrows, cheeks, eyeshadow, and even lips. As I continued to be memorized by this look in the mirror, I just kept saying to myself, “I need this foundation, it looked great.” So, I started asking questions about the foundation. I found out that: 1. It was $25, 2. It was Clinque’s Even Better makeup, and 3. It was also a color corrector. So, as I continued to play that information in my head, I decided that I wanted to give it a try and go ahead and purchase the makeup.

Here is the look of the night from the awards!

As I got home and started to use the makeup the next day I thought to myself, “Please don’t let this be crap.” You know how when you get something done and decide to buy the product to use at home for yourself and it turns out like crap? Well…This wasn’t the case AT ALL! Clinque’s Even Better is amazing even when I apply it myself. LOL. I love how smooth the foundation is (That’s always a MUST for me) as well as the even balance of color the foundation gives my whole face, even around my edges. Also, the makeup lasts a lot longer than most makeup products. I went the majority of the day not having to touch-up my makeup.

With my skin type, a combination of dry and oily in the corrector in the foundation really works. So now I feel I have the perfect ready-to-wear makeup for any job I am about to handle. I did learn a few tricks while getting my makeup done.

1. Try to apply the foundation with a smooth brush. It seemed to even the makeup out great.
2. Make sure you get around those edges and under the eyes. (Forgot to mention, I was running off just a little sleep & the makeup under the eyes took care of bags quick).
3. Apply a top coat of loose powder to stop the makeup from getting oily.
4. USE THE CORRECT COLOR AND FOUNDATION FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE.
5. If you are going to wear it then don’t be lazy!

MUST HAVES FOR THE MAKEUP BAG-Eyebrow pencil, favorite foundation, loose powder, blush, mascara, and eyeshadow.

If you are going to be FABULOUS then be fabulous!

Readers Fall Makeup Q&A's with Makeup Artist Trecie

This week Fab Life wanted the readers to share their personal Fall Makeup questions with us. The response was great and I was surprised to see some many similiar questions about skincare, eye shadow, and the natural look. We sent over the questions to Tennessee Local Makeup Artist, Trecie Tharpe who answered the questions!

I'm pretty sure there is a few things with the Q&A we can all learn about!

1. What are some ways to do eye make up for those of us with sensitive eyes, especially during Fall season?

Trecie: Eye product sensitivity comes from a few different sources. It can be a color or dye you are allergic to or the actual ingredients. Switching to minerals will decrease your chance of irritation. Normal color allergies include red, blue and purple dyes or pigments. If you can get samples of some minerals try them one at a time to see which react with your sensitive eyes. But to still be in trend for the fall season, opt for a natural, neutral eye and a bold berry toned lip. For extra drama, select a deep, dark berry tone suited for your complexion!

2. What are the colors for the Fall to wear?

Trecie: Fall is all about berries, plums, eggplants, purples and deep, rich tones. Golds and bronzes are still a staple in any fall makeup collection as well.

3. How to do the Smokey eye look?

Trecie: To start out apply a primer to your eye to prolong eyeshadow wear and pigmentation. Start by applying the darkest color at the lashline and diffusing the color to the crease. Next take a mocha toned brown and blend the color for a seamless and gradient effect. Highlight the brown area with a cream tone color and line the lower lashline with a kohl liner. Take the dark color and smudge the liner slightly. Apply an iridescent cream on the inner corner of the eye to open the eye up and you are complete.

4. What are the best types of makeup for coverage?

Trecie: Cream products give you the best coverage. However, airbrush is light weight and can cover blemishes as well. It all depends on the severity of your blemishes and your skin type and condition.

5. How to master the Natural makeup look, primarily for models that are going on castings or open calls but don’t’ want to go without ANY makeup on?

Trecie: Natural looks are all about emphasizing or faking flawless skin. To achieve a flawless face, start by properly cleansing, toning and moisturizing your skin. Next, apply your color corrector on problem areas (green for redness, salmon/orange for hyperpigmented blemishes). Apply your foundation of choice, making sure to buff the product onto your skin. Conceal under eyes with a concealer a shade lighter than your skintone, as well as on top of your lids to even out the complexion. Set with a translucent powder, apply mascara and lipgloss and you have the appearance of a flawless face.

6. What are the Fall colors for blush and how to choose the right blush based on your undertone?

Trecie:For fall since it is all about drama, the cheeks should remain a natural, soft tone. Soft pinks and peaches are the way to go! MAC’s Peach blush is a favorite of mine.

7. What makeup companies offer the best eye shadow’s for the Fall?

Trecie: I have fallen in love with NARS’ fall single eyeshadows in Daphne and Coconut Grove. These two eye shadows capture the essence of the fall trends.

8. How to choose the right lip colors for different skin tones?

Trecie: You have to know the undertones of your skin…cool toned colors typically look better on rosy and pink undertones and those with fair skin; however, a blue toned red looks AMAZING on darker skin as well. Peachy, golden skin looks better in warm toned colors.

9. What colors are best to use to make your eyes pop during the day

Trecie: Soft natural, neutral shades are amazing during the day. To amp them up, use shades that have a slight shimmer to them. Also to make eyes pop during the day, try blue or purple toned mascara. It gives you a nice pop while still remaining business friendly AS WELL AS day safe!

Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to Makeup Artist Trecie for the great responses.

Beauty Review: Clean & Clear Morning Burst

I’m back again with my journey of finding the good and back of the Beauty industry.

I been dancing and singing to Clean and Clear Morning Burst for over a month now and I thought hey how about I give the face wash a try from the commercial.

In my mind it would work out perfectly! I’m been so busy and going to sleep so late that in the mornings I need something to energize me, awaken my senses. So in my fabulous form of getting ready in the morning I decided to play “Wakin up to Love” by Shanna Crooks, get in the shower and use the Morning Burst.

The directions tell us to use the Clean & Clear Morning Burst (In-shower facial) 1-3 times a week. Apply a small amount to your face, avoiding eye area. Do not massage. Let sit for one minute. Afterwards, massage skin to activate exfoliating beads and smooth away dead surface skin. Rinse thoroughly. Pat dry and follow with moisturizer.
Basically I followed the directions given on the tube of the Morning Burst!

Result: Loved the smell and did make my face feel fresh like most Clean & Clear products but it doesn’t really give you a boost that wakes you up. The citrus scent is very dominant in the cleanser, but don’t expect to walk out the shower with this new burst of energy.

What now: I wouldn’t throw this (In-shower facial) to the back of the cabinet. Although it didn’t it completely give me the morning burst I would say the citrus and hot stream of water is a pleasant awaken tool in some way. If you looking for that morning boost stick to your coffee, but want to add a little extra boost for your skin use the facial…just also try some nice hot Coffee afterwards…I find it works Oh it's also inexpensive!!!

Product Review: Veet Spray on Hair Removal

I was in the grocery store looking through packs of razors and thinking I need to try something else. Razors are so unfriendly, right?! So, I picked up the Veet Spray on Hair Removal, now in my mind I was thinking "Seriously, spray on and a scraper" but I wanted to just roll with the punches.

I get home and read the directions for the spray on hair removal. After sitting with my legs in the tub for about 5 to 6 minutes I decided to give it a try....Nothing happens! All I'm doing is scraping the spray foam off my legs. I was disappointed that it didn't work but more disappointed in myself for believing that it would.

Veet Spray on Hair Removal just doesn't cut it or live up to it's hype. Now I won't diss Veet as a whole because Veet's plain hair removal is fine longs you leave it on longer than 6 minutes but the Spray on Hair Removal you minus well grab a dual razor before trying to scrape hair off your body!

Colgate-Palmolive Introduces Speed Stick Stainguard

Colgate-Palmolive introduces Speed Stick Stainguard with Stain Defense Technology. The new deodorant is specially formulated to help fight against yellow stains and residue on clothes, and is clinically proven to provide 24 hour odor and wetness protection.
Yellow stains on clothes that appears can be caused by different things such as sweat, soils, stress, our diet, how clothes are washed and antiperspirant ingredients.
We all know there is nothing more embrassing then wet underarms stains, yellow underarm stains, and of course nasty smelly arms.

So the Fabulous Life Team was here to test all this out! What we were looking for out of this product was....
comfort, balance, and freshness!
Perfectly comfortable we were able to go about our day in the extreme heat in Tennessee and not even worry about wet underarms. I mean what's more uncomfortable then walking in a meeting and you are sweaty, sticky, and visibly wet! The Speedstick Stainguard helped to keep the underarm area dry and comfortable all day.
Freshness...Yes! Two speed stick deodorants arrived in the mail one Stainguard fresh and one Stainguard clean. A full day or errands, work, and school to return home and still smell fresh and no yellow stains on the white t-shirts we decided to wear to test out. The speed stick was able to work against the days hectic and heavy schedule to provide us with one less thing to worry about.
Balance definitely! Speedstick stainguard is that balance we all look for out of our products. That comfort and freshness that keeps us confident.
"The Stain Defense Technology used in the Stainguard line is specially designed to fight against yellow stains on clothing. This patent pending formula leverages a novel gelling system and high efficacy active to produce improved skin adhesion properties. When applied properly, Speed Stick Stainguard and Lady Speed Stick Stainguard keeps consumers fresh and dry all day and helps fight residue stains on clothes."
Overall Speed stick Stainguard was a great product to try out. Trying out a new deodorant can be a little scary not knowing how it would work but Speed stick passed the test! Ladies you can also try Lady Speed Stick Stainguard.

You can purchased the New Speed Stick Stainguard at mass retailers nationwide at the retail price of $2.99.
Disclosure: Samples of Men’s Speed Stick with Stainguard were provided to us by Colgate-Palolive’s public relations team. However, all views and opinions stated in this review belong to the Fabulous Life Team.
