Shopbop and Sephora Collection 5-in-1 Color Play

Shopbop one of fashion's most talked about clothing sites has joined forces with Sephora to collaborate on what they call a Color Play 5-in-1. The 5-in-1 is a makeup palette that includes looks that corresponds with Shopbop's "Faces of Fashion" editorial lookbook. The palettes and lookbook is a fun idea but palettes I have found are not the best makeup purchase. The colors seem to not be the right ones for different skin types especially for African American Women.

The palette for Shopbop and Sephora includes  five distinct color palettes, each with ten eye shadows, two lip colors, and one blush in color stories that correspond to five iconic styles in fashion. The color palettes include -A Nod to Mod (bright blues, greens, pinks, purples) -Angelic Boudoir (nudes, sands, with a touch of bright blue and fucshia), -Black is the New Black (black smokey eyes), -Boho Bombshell (dark blues, warm taupes, warm golds), and -Classic Never Die (brown smokey eyes).

The "Faces of Fashion" lookbook is up on Shopbop.com but the makeup palette can only be purchased at Sephora.com and is priced at $30.

Introducing "Shawn Rocket" by Rashaun Brown

Shooting for the stars and aiming for greatest or be a dreamer and believe, are just two of the many motivational quotes Rashaun Brown refers to when elaborating on his dreams, aspirations and goals. Born October 25, 1987 Rashaun Brown better known as Shawn Kidd because of his playful ways. Shawn always had a unique mind always talking about the stars, planets, time, and gravity some would think that he would have set a path to be an astronaut or astronomer someone who gazes at the heavens above. However, he chooses another path one that involved him to draw, color, and write about his ideas and convert them over into comics or drawing on clothing. “I was never the good kid growing up, I always played rough tearing my clothes and I drew on everything in sight,” says Shawn.
Moving to Atlanta, GA at the age of 19 years old to stay with his uncle, Rashaun started school at American InterContinental University and took up a course in Graphic Designs. Not long after Rashaun dropped out of school to chase his dreams. Taking $300 to order his first batch of shirts to sell, with his ambition high it quickly turned south. However, he did not give up on his dreams and took one whole year to study everything about the business he was venturing into, studying similar businesses like Johnny Cupcakes, Benny Gold, and The Hundreds etc. Learning everything about T-shirts, prints, material, professionalism and presentation, Shawn got the money he saved up and re-launched his line.
Shawn Rocket Clothing is a mixture of art, futuristic steeze and stellar creativeness. Shawn Rocket is daring, edgy and meaningful at the same time. There are tons of other Brands out in this Universe but Shawn Rocket Clothing creates its own path. Combining colorful, futuristic, robotic, and Hip Hop styles, it makes it hard for others to compete. Scratch swag, steeze and everything you thought was. Shawn Rocket Clothing epitomizes being fly and out of this world, by accepting a new style of fashion and wearing clothing that has a true heartfelt meaning. Be a DREAMER and BELIEVE, or Shoot for the Stars, while Aiming for Greatness, anyone can relate to his messages. With its limited edition runs, Shawn Rocket will stay original and always keep you excited and waiting for more.

BE a DREAMER & BELIEVE!

DaRico Jackson Celebrity Hairstyle & Author of “Ain’t I a Woman”

Celebrity Hairstylist DaRico Jackson has been giving body and perfection to the hairstyles of some of our favorite celebrities such as Tasha Smith, Elise Neal, Michael Ealy, Raven Simone, and Paula Abdul. After many years in the industry and great success, DaRico has decided to release a book titled “Ain’t I a Woman.” In the “coffee table book,” DaRico showcases some of America’s top notable black women. With film, editorial, and hair shows all under his belt, the book is set to deliver a powerful movement among black women, their hair, and their voices.

In this interview with Fab Life, DaRico discusses his love for styling hair and how he got his start. He also discusses his book and his work.

When did you start doing hair?
DaRico: I started doing hair when I was around seven years old. My aunt, whose 2 years younger ("Go figure!"), and I used to gather all the dolls in the house and play "beauty shop" everyday, all summer long. We would comb their hair one day and wash and restyle the next! Then I moved on to cousins, aunts, friends and the rest is history. In fact, my Aunt Felicia is now a hair stylist as well.

What aspects of the media do you enjoy most?
DaRico: The aspects of media that I enjoy the most is television and film because it's a true test of skills. There's nothing like seeing the hair that I've created perform on the big screen. I remember when I did Tasha Smith's hair for 'Why Did I Get Married.' That bob moved across that screen like an action hero! LOL! It swung back and forth and snapped back in place! I still blush when I see it! And the people are still asking for it!

What are the challenges that you face as an educator and platform artist?

DaRico: I think the biggest challenge for me as a platform artist and educator is the ability to captivate the audience. Not only do you want them to enjoy the experience, however, it is just as important that they learn and retain what they have seen.

How often do you travel outside of the salon?
DaRico: Between hairshows, Mizani education, and my celebrity clients, I am on the road probably three weekends per month.

What is the most challenging style that you have created?
DaRico: The most challenging style that I have ever created was when I turned three people into a flower garden for a photograph. I made a Calla Lily, Gladiola, and Bird Of Paradise. Sculpting the Calla Lily was beyond a challenge. I couldn't get my head wrapped around the idea, but I finally figured it out and it was beautiful!

What is your current project?
DaRico: My current project is a "coffee table book" called “Ain't I A Woman: 50 of the Most Influential Black Women and the Truth Behind Their Hair.” This is a full feature editorial of never before seen pictures of my "fabulous fifty."

Why a coffee table book?
DaRico: I have chosen to do a coffee table book for a few reasons. For one, it gives me an opportunity to create art from my point of view, showcase my work, and showcase a kaleidoscope of creative people in a way that no one else has. Each photo was created with and styled with my stylist and partner, Bynoskia Sam. The photos feature the work of various makeup artists and photographers that were carefully chosen to bring out the best in every photograph.

What is the book about?
DaRico: The book will not only showcase the beauty of some of the most important black women that we know and love, but “Ain't I A Woman” is a behind the scenes look at several high profile women and explore first hand the styles that make a difference in their lives and life styles. In addition, the ladies will talk about the challenges of baring the hair of a black woman.

Who is in the book?
DaRico: Vivica Fox , business mogul Tina Davis, actress Rochelle Aytes, boxing champion Yolanda Ezell, and director of Soul Food the Series Sam Martin, just to name a few.

How can we contact you for bookings?
DaRico: To contact me for bookings please call me directly at 310 926-5838 or email me at daricojackson@yahoo.com.

“SoleMates” HIGH HEEL PROTECTORS

“Discreet and easy to use, the “SoleMates High Heeler” attaches easily to most stiletto and kitten heels. By increasing the surface area on the base of the heel, it reduces the pressure on this area and prevents the heel from sinking into grass or falling into cracks!”

“The patented design of the “SoleMates High Heeler” is mechanically engineered to fit snugly on most heels and yet the flexible material grips securely without damaging the heel or compromising the aesthetics of the shoe.” “Perfect for outdoor events or everyday use, wear the “SoleMates High Heeler” on grass, cobblestones, grates, and more….and experience the difference!”

FAB LIFE REVIEW

I got an email regarding “SoleMates High Heeler” and obviously I’ve been under a rock because this was my first time hearing of the product. The product that I received was an update on colors after SoleMate released the product in clear and black. From my understanding, they updated due to the overwhelming respond of people asking for more colors that are in trend in the footwear market.

The first day I got my hands on SoleMates, I completely left out of the house without trying them out. I was thinking about it throughout the day because as you know how when you walk and you start to notice your favorite pair of heels just seems to have a mind of its own? I could relate that day. On campus, you have to walk through the dirt and through the gravel parking lot filled with rocks and all you think as you walk is “Don’t let me trip or get stuck” because that combination is not the best with the bottom of your heels. Long story short, the next day I made sure I tried out the “SoleMates High Heeler.”

My first thought was “I hope they aren’t so noticeable that people start to call me out!” But, to my surprise no one even mentioned the product at the bottom of my heels. I did some testing in the shoes when I walked through mud as I walked my dog and as I took a few steps in this parking lot with all the rocks. I noticed that they did solve my problems. My heel wasn’t sinking in the dirt and I didn’t stumble on rocks as I walked…I could actually walk and text without worrying about my heels. Lol!
RESULTS: What I liked the most about the “SoleMates High Heeler” is that they fit perfectly and didn’t disturb the look of my outfit. They also worked great! I love how they can protect the bottom of your heel. When you wear a certain pair of heels often, the bottom starts to scrape off and you can hear the metal when you start to walk. With the heel protector, it helps to protect your heel from being damaged by the sidewalks. It also allows you to place on heels that’s been damaged so you can walk without the whole building knowing that you are coming. Also, when you reach places such as mudded areas, you are able to walk on through as your heels dig their way through the mud.

The “SoleMates High Heeler” was created by Becca Brown and Monica Murphy. They wanted to identify the challenge of wearing heels on unsupportive surfaces. Great job Ladies!

You can now purchase “SoleMates High Heeler” in Metallic shades along with the black and clear colors. Check out TheSoleMates.com for more information on the heel protectors.

LINE REVIEW: R.P.S Clothing

Sometimes I get clothing lines in my inbox that makes me say “Hey I like that,” but sometimes I get lines in my inbox that makes me say “Whoa, I LOVE that!” R.P.S was one of those that “I LOVE.”

R.P.S Clothing will be launching its first collection this spring of 2011. The collection reflects “contrasts, the romance of vintage pieces fabrics set against the edge and nonchalance of rock-and-roll tees.”

The pieces have such a funkiness to them that all I could think about was that every stylish, vintage piece wearer could do some awesome things with the different pieces from R.P.S.

My absolute Favorite:

R.P.S creatively designed a piece of chunky sweater that is as light-weight as your favorite cardigans. The balance of the sweater makes it seem impractical, but the beauty of it paired with your favorite spring shorts or favorite fitted jeans on those spring nights gives you an amazing rock-n-roll, soft bad girl look. The sweater is white and the back of it dawns three perfectly shaped designs of shredded strings from the sweater itself.

R.P.S is definitely for the girl that is different and not afraid to take chances with her style. Why be vintage if you can’t funky it up?

The line also includes blouses, graphic tees, pants, shorts, and skirts. The site, which will be located at www.rpsaddict.com, launches in about 6-8 weeks with prices ranging from $100-$35+ for the blouses and wovens, $45 for the graphic tees, and $48+ for the pants, shorts, and skirts. The collection will be available at Revolve Clothing, Fred Segal, and Belk.

Stay on the lookout for the launch of R.P.S first collection!

Nikera Clothing Bridging Fashion + Music

Nikera Clothing has been making noise and moves since its launch in the spring of 2010. One of my favorites! I actually featured Nikera Clothing and its designer and founder Nicholette Moore a while back.

Since then, Nikera Clothing’s website has gotten a new look. Their new music band representing this season’s line is the Beat Greeks and their clothing has continued to get hotter.

Nikera Clothing is a brand that brings together the world of Fashion + Music. Artists are chosen twice a year to bless the clothing company and become the face of the collection.

This winter, Nikera launched their New Nikera x L.A 2010 Winter Collection, an amazing collection that consists of men and women tees, tanks and hoodies.

Head on over to shop for Nikera Clothing Winter Collection and also check this brand out as one of FAB LIFE’S 1-Year anniversary giveaway sponsors.
