Rockin Pink Party


About 1.3 million people are diagnosed with Breast Cancer annually and still to this day, there is no cure!

We all hear the stats and we all know about the struggle, but what do YOU do to help fight the fight against Breast Cancer?

Everyday a woman, and even males, are finding ways to help support and bring awareness about Breast Cancer, but October is one month that millions around the world come together to help raise funds, give support, and spread knowledge all for one cause, Breast Cancer awareness.

So this Friday, October 15th, Nashville come out to show your support and help fight the fight against Breast Cancer.

The Nashville chapter of the Little Black Dress Club is hosting a party to benefit The Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The event, “Rockin’ Pink Party,” will be hosted on October 15th at B.B. Kings and will raise funds for The Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The rock and roll inspired dance party is from 7 pm to midnight and will feature live music, drinks and food specials, a silent auction and a raffle.

The Little Black Dress Club’s collaboration with The Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a part of the organization’s bigger mission to impact the world socially and civically.

“Through the Nashville chapter we are able to create a national model for events like this that will mix social events with community initiatives,” shares National Director and Nashville Director Angee Billingsley. She goes on, “We will use this opportunity to create a platform that will transform the way we socialize.”

The Rockin’ Pink Party is sponsored by Printers Press, B.B. Kings, NowPlayingNashville.com, CS Jones Design Illustration, Magnolia Day Spa, Alpha Limousine, and more. The night’s musical guests are Dean Larson and The Jackson Boone Coalition.
The event takes place October 15th, with advance tickets being sold for $10 and tickets at the door being $15. Passing Those College Courses

Passing Those College Courses

We can all sit around and discuss past failed test, professors who just didn’t understand, and boring classes but really does anyone ever discuss how to overcome those problems. I can admit being a full-time college student, working, extra curriculum activities and just life itself can make a college student overwhelmed and frustrated. Students have complained over and over about how professor’s just don’t understand that we can’t simply study for each class for three hours a day. Like who thought that would be realistic in any way?

Through my years of college I have found there are a few things that can be done that can actually help the college student to be able to cut down on the cramming and putting more into the work without having to overwhelm yourself.

TIPS
1. Actually participate in class- There is a difference between an active student then a sleeping student. The active student leaves the class with understanding of the lesson taught. When you finally get to reading the chapters you are able to relate what you learned from class presentations making it easier to keep the knowledge retained easier.
2. Speak up- Why leave out the door and be clueless. 1. This is your major it will benefit you in some way possible. 2. It will keep you from stumbling the day of the test because you were to scared to raise your hand and ask questions.
3. When reading information from power points and lesson books find a way to recite the information back to a form you would understand. Grab note cards and design questions and answer in a way that you understand and fit for your knowledge of the information. Never just read, you must retain and be able to recite out what you have learned.
4. Study the information continuously! You will find that the more you look over the information the more you start to remember the information. Even if it’s 30minutes a night. If your test is in two weeks those 30 minutes will come in handy more then that two days of cramming.
5. BIG ONE: Sit in front of the class. Students who sit in front of the class seem to participate more, therefore understanding more. When you are sitting up front you are less distracted and more active.

Nashville first and official Fashion Week



This November all fashionista’s and fashion lovers will get a chance to witness Tennessee’s very first Fashion Week. From November 1st to November 6th we will be overtaken by exclusives events, fashion shows. Nashville Fashion Week is presented by Couture Fashion Magazine, the online women’s fashion magazine that give readers the scope on the latest fashions, accessories, style trends, color forecasts, health, beauty, fitness, and fashion in top US cities. The official Nashville Fashion Week will kick off Monday, November 1st with a press conference that will give all details on the very first Fashion Week. The fashion week will end November 6th, will be a full day of Fashion Shows in downtown Nashville, collections from Cameo Bobo, Damon Harding, Marcus Lemon, Mission Savvy, and many more at the Nashville Convention Center, Nashville, TN from 9am-11pm. The shows are open to the press, editors, buyers, celebrities and the public. Tickets for each show are $10 and available for purchase online.

Also Thursday, November 4th Nashville's Fashion Week will take some time out to support the Eating Disorder Coalition runway show "Fashion for Everybody."

Betsey Johnson Pink Gloves



No only is it Fall but October is a time when millions come together to help to fight cancer and that includes the Fashion Industry. I was introduced to some fashion gloves by the more than unique designer Betsey Johnson, who I didn't know was also a breast cancer survivor.

Go check out Betsey's story and also purchase items from her collection, the 2010 Breast Cancer Awareness collection. A portion of the proceeds will support The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund and the Weill Cornell Breast Center of the Iris Cantor Women's Health Center at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where Betsey herself was treated.

Candle Wishes



Birthday’s are an important time for each individual. To celebrate the day that we made our presence known in this world. So, no one should go without a big celebration and that’s why we believe at The Fabulous Life that Candle Wishes organization is such a powerful organization that shouldn’t be looked over.

Candle Wishes is a non-profit that fulfills birthday wishes and provides essential needs for underprivileged children in Tennessee. The non-profit serves 600 needy children in Rutherford County each year and has launched new programs in Memphis and Franklin, TN in 2010.

I can say through personal experience with Candle Wishes working as a volunteer the event that takes place on the night of the big monthly birthday party is simply life changing. To see the smiles not only on the parents faces but also the kids. The amazed look beaming from their eyes and the appreciated touching moment with parents that sighs a sign of relief. Every month Candle Wishes provide the kids with that joy and excitement, and parents with that relief during desperate times.

Instead of cynicism about a world that doesn’t care, these families are encouraged that their community is different. Children learn that there are caring people in the world. When hundreds of families and children experience that kind of changed attitudes, a community becomes a better place to live.

What draws The Fabulous Life to Candle Wishes is the unconditional commitment made to the families and the community. To help make it a better place by providing the families with a program that also lends it’s outreach to other community leaders, businesses, and organizations that look forward to providing an outlet for more growth for kids and families whose lives have been touched by the love of others.

Those that have made this commitment love the Lord and love people. We are called to this ministry and work tirelessly knowing these children’s lives could be changed forever. We think of what is and what could be: a boy hears for the first time at a Candle Wishes party that Jesus loves him unconditionally, a love he hasn’t experienced at home; a girl grows up to start her own non-profit to help people because of seeds planted through her experiences with Candle Wishes, Candle Wishes has a pay it forward effect and families are inspired to do something to help someone else, a family sponsors a child and creates a teachable moment for their children to understand the importance of helping those in need. The scenarios are endless, and we are encouraged to see stories like these unfold each month.

Bras For a Cause

The 3rd annual Bras for a Cause is finally here! Bras for a Cause is a fundraiser put on by Murfreesboro’s local boutique Penny’s Closet. The fundraiser benefits The Cancer Research Institute.

Throughout the month of October, “Bra art” that is decorated by individuals and businesses, including students from Middle Tennessee State University, is put on display at Penny’s Closet where shoppers, friends, family and others can come in and vote for their favorite bra for only $1. At the end of October, Penny’s Closet will host a fabulous preview party where winners of the “Bra art” will be chosen and the winning bras will go into their Bras for a Cause 2011 calendars.

For everyone that is looking to participate in Bras for a Cause the submission for bras ends on October 15th. There is a $25 entry submission fee with each bra and that also entitles you to a ticket to the preview party.

The bras will be on display at Penny’s Closet the entire month of October. Winners will be chosen in two categories, People’s Choice & by a board of Cancer Survivors. The voting for People’s choice Awards are $1 per vote and begins on October 1st. There will be prizes for the top 3 bras, which will be voted by attendees during the party.

At the preview party, there will also be a silent auction with items donated from the Penny’s Closet vendors and local retailers. The bra art will also be included at the preview party.

All the proceeds from the event, silent auction, and People’s Choice Awards will go to The Cancer Research Institute. The preview party is from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m at Penny’s Closet. Tickets at the preview party are also negotiable during the party for $25 off a $100 purchase. Make checks payable to The Cancer Research Institute.

Casino Couture Event



Hitting the tables and gambling “Vegas-style” came with some perks on Friday, September 24, 2010. For once, I didn’t go broke. For two, I didn’t have to worry about being a sore loser. For three, I got a chance to spot some of Nashville’s best dressed. For four, the dessert/food + activities were amazing. Finally for fifth, it was all for a good cause.

That’s what drew me out to Casino Couture, the 1960’s Vegas-inspired event presented by the Nashville chapter of The Little Black Dress Club. The event benefitted The Mary Parrish Center.

The Mary Parrish Center is a unique residential program that provides access to an array of services for domestic/sexual violence victims and their children during dangerous and/or critical times in their lives.

The Little Black Dress Club transformed Gaylord Golf Springs into a Vegas-styled casino. Guests came in channeling their inner Audrey Hepburn and Chanel and enjoyed cocktails, food, a silent auction, poker, blackjacks, and roulette.

The event also included a presentation. The Mary Parrish Center thanked all of the guests for their attendance and support. There was also a silent auction that included items such as a Splinter Art of Frank Sinatra, a private cooking lesson with Executive Chef Chris Rains, a Peyton Manning autographed jersey, and Harrah’s Casino Package (for the casino lovers).



Overall, I really enjoyed the charity event. When we walked into the Golf Springs we were greeted with smiles as we were told about the night’s event and given our chips for the casino. I believe my favorite game of the night was the blackjack table where I seemed to have lost the majority of my time, but the thrill was definitely worth the time. I enjoyed mingling with the guests who were very social and open to showing off their Vegas-inspired looks for the night.

We also indulged in plenty of food from little chicken sandwiches to crab cakes, not to mention the delicious cakes, strawberries and chocolate, and more. The social scene at the event was one to remember. From excited winners at the casino tables, to networking, to dancing, it all kept the party going.


The event was wonderful and most importantly, it was for a great cause. Check out the photos from the Casino Couture.
